Some Tibetan Sheep herders, taken a short distance from Everest Basecamp on the China Side. When I took the photo the mother looked quite nervous and was looking away. I found out afterwards that Tibetans believe if you take their photo, you capture their soul. I still have remorse for taking the image, I wouldn't have if I had known.
Why was I on the roadside? Well the van we were travelling in needed gas, and this area is a very restricted part of China. To travel to Tibet you need a Chinese Visa, and a Tibet Permit. The permit lists specifically where you are allowed to go and at what day. The driver had to head back into town, and the "tourists" were not allowed in that own as it wasn't on our permits. We spent an hour on a very windy roadside waiting for the van to return. This is where I spotted this woman, her shy child, and about 50 or so of their sheep.
